What Happened to the Baby We Brought Home?

Burp!

Sleep now, wake later

So sweet and nice, quiet, a perfect angel...until it's time for those two daddies to go to sleep. OK I get it. Everyone says "Oh you don't get sleep with a baby around". I knew they were exaggerating. It can't be that bad. Well she woke up last night about every 45 minutes or so. It is that bad. We're taking turns on night duty, I went first. Gregg actually slept through half of the screaming! She's crying, and I can hear him snoring over it. Great.

Turns out the little one gets real gassy. After you feed her she'll give giant burps. But she also gets hiccups from gulping her food down. The baby book says infants who have hiccups probably started having bouts of them in the womb, and she'll just have to grow out of it. It doesn't say when; I'm hoping the answer is "by Thursday". But who cares. She's ours and she's adorable. My sister got her this little mini lounger chair and she does love that. Tonight's Gregg's turn. Let's see how much better she is with him!

she is so stinkin' adorable!!! our boy had really bad gas, as well; a few things worked for us: cradling him and holding is legs up, holding his legs up and rubbing his tummy just above his diaper and, of course, mylicon. i hear that gripe water also helps, but we have not tried it. enjoy that sweet bundle and try to get some sleep :-)

Welcome to daddyhood! My niece had terrible gas when she was born so my sister put her bouncy seat in the crib and allowed my niece to sleep in that at night until her tummy started to feel better. Of course she also strapped her in so my niece wouldn't fall out at night. Anyways... since my niece was reclined, it helped her to sleep a lot better even with bubbles in her belly!

In addition - to get rid of hiccups, turn sabrina to her stomach on your lap and burp her. It works like magic! Just be sure to support her head!

I'm loving the pictures so keep them coming. Hopefully Sabrina will allow her Daddies to sleep soon.

Yes, we weren't kidding when we warned you of the lack of sleep. I haven't had a good night's sleep but once in the last 8.5 months. (Nick rarely got up with her because of work, ok rarely meaning I could count on one hand)Kayla is just now finally sleeping all night.
You will be exhausted beyond words, but you will get through it and it will pass.
Sabrina is a doll. I swear she looks like you both.
ps, we loved the lounger chair too! That is how I got showered everyday!

The first three months are the hardest. Good thing you are taking turns sleeping it makes it much easier with help. My son was colicy the first three months, non-stop crying and gas. On his three month b'day he stopped crying and became the cute adorable little guy I knew he was. Hang in there.

I can just imagine how wonderful she smells- there's nothing as yummy as a newborn. And yours is particularly scrumptious! So happy for the three of you. Healing thoughts to the sweet mama!

We took turns. Actually, when our son cried, we both fought to get to him first. I can happily tell you he now sleeps through the night and so do we :D

Okay, so you totally have to get this video. Check it out at the library or something. It is absolutely amazing and tells how babies have natural "calming reflexes" and shows you how to calm them. It totally works!!!

Sabrina DOES look like both of you -- love that. Of course, I've always believed that babies are supposed to look like their dads when they are born so their dads bond with them -- but, hmmmm, how does that work now? Love it. She was meant to be with you. Love Lucy for all she decided. I agree with the gas bump upside down in your lap and across your arm walking around (until they are 12 pounds!). You may find that a better bottle (like Avent or Dr. Brown helps more than the hospital ones -- so go shopping!

Hello Daddies!
We are an IAC family and I couldn't resist your invitation to read your blog and see photos of your beautiful daughter! Then I read about the hiccups and couldn't stop laughing. Our beautiful daughter had hiccups in the womb and didn't stop them until well after she was 3 months old. They would wake her up at night! I hope Sabrina's end sooner than that!
Congratulations!

This post just made me chuckle because now you can understand why everyone kept saying "be sure to get your sleep now!" It will get better...in a few months, if you are lucky. :-)

Also, I am trying to humor in our situation. Matteo was up quite a bit last night. We think he was having lower gas pain...not much you can do about that except try to console them when they are crying/screaming in your ears. Oy...

By the way, I am quite impressed that you are finding time to blog.
