A Modern Family

I'm not usually real big on awards shows, but I'm happy that one of my favorite shows, "Modern Family" won an Emmy for best comedy.  Not bad for a show in its first season.  It's well written, consistently funny, and best of all, features a gay couple with an adopted infant.  Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cameron, won a best supporting actor award for his portrayal of one of the partners.  The dynamic between him and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (who is gay in real life) is both hysterically funny and loving at the same time.  The show doesn't make anything special or unusual about Those Two Daddies, and they are accepted by the extended family as just two more parents.  It doesn't go out of it's way to say "Hey they're two men", but does add a gay spin to dealing with parenthood.

I think shows like this that present a normal day to day life of gay parents who you'd probably like to know do a great deal to help gain acceptance for same sex parents.  When you can laugh along with them and see yourself in their shoes it makes it just a little easier to accept them living next door.  Good job everyone involved in the show!

The show seems to have that "coming out" effect that Greta Christina talked about when she gave her talk about what the atheist movement could learn from the LGBT movement.

I've been wanting to watch this show, but I don't have any time.

Maybe I'll rent it on DVD. That's about the only way I watch TV these days.

Right now, I'm wound up in Battlestar Galactica. Yeah, I know . . . I'm a day late and a dollar short. But, I didn't have time to watch it when it was out. Oh well . . . Modern Family sounds like a good show. I'll try to catch up on it during the off season.

i am happy you found something worthwhile on tv that actually has a positive message (so many shows these days lack any kind of message). i have not seen it but it sounds like a show that has taken steps in moving in the direction of showing society we are all just people; same , different, but still people with love in our hearts, straight or gay. i like when shows come out that bring a new light to alternative ideas, etc. i think it helps society evolve.

it is great to find a show to relate to, isnt it. sometimes i watch some unusual or newfound shows but because i find that one thing within the storyline that is relatable.

Normal family. Love it that "normal family" can be just that, thanks to shows like "Modern Family". (That being said, I don't watch regular TV but have read so much about this show, I could be pulled into the fray.)
