Oh Gurl...

Sean Harris, Sr. Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, N.C.:

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, 'Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,' you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.

Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting too butch, you reign [sic] her in. And you say, 'Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.'"

Well he has a point about one thing.  If you let your son run around in a dress as a child, there's no telling what kind of horrible future may be in store for him.

Work the runway sweetie...

(Rolling my eyes)...but the sad thing is that there were dads taking in every word to justify to abuse their children in the name of religion.

I go to this church and love pastor Sean and tge church. What he said was taken out of content if people r going tonged mad then there facts need to be right. They did not go in to the whole sermon were at the end gr tells us basically we do not have to agree with there lifestyle but we still need to love, respect. And be kind toward them on a christ like manner

I can see how being told to punch a child can mean lots of different things, like...well like...well OK it just means beat the gay away. Your well written and nuanced comment aside, I doubt your pastor was taken out of context. It amazes me how religious people don't see how condescending the "hate the sin and love the sinner" trope really is. This is about using violence to push someone into the closet and use shame and degradation as the lock. Another teenager in Utah just killed himself last week because of crap like this. If this is the religion you're defending, you should find a new one. And I'm sure Christ would understand. After all, He does have two daddies.

Oh my goodness, loved this post! Yeah, there is no taking out of context the kind of hate that this pastor spewed. In ANY context, this is just wrong!

Love your post, and love you bringing this hatred to light. It is shameful what people will justify in the name of religion.

Ha ha. The end of your post made me laugh.

And yeah, pretty sure it's not even possible for that to be taken out of context. Wow.

Someone tried to give me that punch at 15. I may have been a bit too girly in his opinion but I was also 6'-2". I broke that shitty cousin's jaw. Kinda estranged from the evangie freak side of the fam in Colo. Springs to this day.
I hope this dck tries to hit some kid that's at his breaking point and get's what he deserves.
